Square Enix surprises all with the announcement of Final Fantasy XIV

This was nothing short of amazing, not just for the fact that it gave me and thousands of other FF addicts a nerdasm but they managed to keep it a secret up until the moment the video rolled. It was truly hard to believe what Jack Tretton was saying until he rolled to video. Ok, ok time to stop humping (FF XIV Producer) Hiromichi Tanaka’s leg and get to the game itself.
FF XI was released as a MMORPG in 2002 (2003 in the US) a while before the current MMORPG king World of Warcraft and it still to this day has a strong subscriber base of committed players. The thing that made FF XI really amazing was it’s cross platform play. Unlike most other titles, including such modern ones as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, players on different consoles play and interact together in one world, not a world segregated by different hardware. FF XIV is to be released exclusively on the Playstation Network so you will be able to play on a PS3 or on a Windows PC.
The development team is chock full of past Final Fantasy developers that have produced beautiful products in the past and the teaser video and very limited website that have been released thus far leave very little doubt in my mind that this title will be anything less than the next marvel of a series that has pushed the limits and brought a wonderful gaming experience to millions of people all over the world.
If you care to dig you can find part 3 of Sony’s E3 09 press conference and you can see the .2 seconds of talking about the game that isn’t gloating over that fact that the secret didn’t get out but for better and up to date information on the game itself look at The Official Final Fantasy XIV Website.
